PSA 145:8 The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. 9 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. 10 All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee. 11 They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom (4438)?, and talk of thy power; 12 To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom. 13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endures throughout all generations.
PSA 22:8 For the kingdom (4410) is the LORD'S: and he is the ruler among the nations.
PSA 45:6 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom (4438) is a right sceptre.
PSA 103:13 Like as a father pities his children, so the LORD pities them that fear him. 14 For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust. 15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. 16 For the wind passes over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. 17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; 18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them. 19 The LORD has prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom (4438) rules (4410) over all.
Study of the context and flow of thought of the above passages reveals that the “kingdom” concept is of uppermost importance in visualizing and understanding spiritual truth through the parable teaching of Scripture, using physical imagery that we are familiar with to reveal spiritual reality that is invisible to our physical sight.
The idea of a portion of the inhabited physical earth or world being ruled by a king who has sovereign power over all the inhabitants is applied to the spiritual realm within our mortal bodies, which is under the rule either of our “fleshly” sinful mind which is enmity against God or of the “spiritual” mind of those who are born anew of the Spirit and are given spiritual understanding by God through His Word and the Holy Spirit.
The opening request of the Lord’s prayer is “Thy “kingdom” come, thy will be done (begin to be, become) in earth as it is in heaven”. Jesus teaches directly “behold, the “kingdom” of God is within you”.
The “kingdom” of God is characterized by the true righteousness of God ruling in our hearts, determining how we judge others and ourselves and motivating all that we think and do, as an inner spiritual reality in our present life and everyday walk as a believer.
“Entering” the ‘kingdom”, however, is conditional upon features that speak of the prolonged spiritual purifying, refining and maturing process involving tribulation and the testing of our faith which leads to growth in holiness and spiritual understanding through the reproof and enlightening of the Word and the Holy Spirit in a personal, experiential way, in our daily life as a believer seeking to be enabled to become aware of the “enmity” of our own “fleshly mind” against God, to cease walking in the flesh, to abstain from the fleshly-minded “lusts” for the praise and glory of men which war against our soul, and be increasingly enabled to bear the fruit of the Spirit, to walk in the Spirit, to walk in the light, to walk in the truth, to walk in love (“agape”) out of pure heart in the finishing of our faith.
The topic of “the kingdom” is of foundational and central importance as the culminating, finishing goal for God’s people in Scripture and has received much attention in theological studies of prophecy over the centuries, but can be also viewed as one of large cluster of Bible words that need to be pieced together to see more fully their vital spiritual application to believers here and now, not only in a historical, future, end-times, second-coming of Christ perspective, but also in a present life spiritual perspective considering the ways that Christ comes, appears, manifests Himself to believers, as God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, so that Christ dwells in our hearts by faith and the in-dwelling Holy Spirit is guiding us into all truth, showing us the things of Christ, reproving, enlightening us personally concerning sin, righteousness and judgment, working in our hearts in the finishing of our faith so that we may know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven through the parable teaching of Scripture by the grace of God in this present life on earth, to the praise and glory of God.
